Describe a song, or bring your own lyrics
Simple mode: write the theme, mood, and instruments. Suno writes title, style, and lyrics. Custom mode: you set title and style; with vocals on, the prompt is the lyric sheet.
Pay when the task succeeds
Credits move only after a successful result. Failed tasks are not billed. Live rates sit in the pricing table on this page, shared by the playground and the API.
Stay on one page after the first take
Need words only? Switch to Lyrics. Need a longer arrangement or a new production? Switch to Extend or Cover and attach the previous audio or a public mp3/wav.

When Suno is the right model
A first song from a paragraph
Brief the genre and story, leave Custom mode off, pick V5 unless you have a reason not to. You usually get two candidate tracks plus covers and lyrics.
You already know the words
Turn Custom mode on, paste verses, set title and style. Or run Lyrics first, pick a draft, then generate audio.
The hook is good, the ending is short
Extend from a timestamp (default 60 seconds) instead of rolling a new seed and losing the vocal.
Keep the performance, change the production
Cover takes an uploaded track and your new style notes. Use it when the melody should stay and the genre should not.

Suno - new song
Start here. Optional: Custom mode, instrumental, vocal male/female, version V4 through V5.5 (V5 default). Version does not change the listed generate price.
Suno Lyrics - words only
Theme in, title and verses out. No audio, so it is the cheap way to iterate on a lyric sheet before you spend a generate.
Suno Extend - continue a file
Attach a public mp3/wav or a previous result. Set continue_at if you do not want the default 60-second handoff.
Suno Cover - restyle a file
Attach audio and describe the new production. Custom mode adds title and style the same way generate does.

Play the two candidates in the output panel. Switch Model type only after you have audio you want to keep.

Submit
POST /api/openapi/submit with a Bearer key, model suno (or suno_lyrics / suno_extend / suno_cover), params, and your out_task_id.
Query
POST /api/openapi/query with that out_task_id until status is completed. A generate result usually includes two songs, each with audio, cover, title, and lyrics text.
Simple vs custom
Simple: prompt only. Custom: send title and style; put lyrics in prompt when vocals are on. instrumental true ignores vocal_gender.
Auth
Create a key at /keys. The same key bills image, video, and music against one credit balance.

Off: one description, Suno writes title, style, and lyrics. On: you set title and style. If vocals are on, the prompt is treated as lyrics.
/ 03How do I extend or cover a song?
Switch Model type, attach a public mp3/wav or a previous result. Extend defaults to continuing from 60 seconds. Cover needs a prompt that describes the new production. Files: 20 MB, 480 seconds.
/ 04Which Suno version should I pick?
V5 is the default. V4, V4.5, V4.5+, V4.5 All, V5, and V5.5 are all listed. Version does not change the generate/extend/cover price in the table above.
