Nano Banana 2.1 AI Image Generator and API

Nano Banana 2.1 is Google's latest fast image generation and editing model, an update to Nano Banana 2. It keeps Flash-level speed while improving visual quality, prompt adherence, character consistency, and text rendering, with output at 1K, 2K, or 4K.

Better image quality at every tier

Realism, lighting, and fine detail improve across 1K, 2K, and 4K output compared with Nano Banana 2. Wide compositions at 2K and 4K render as one clean image without visible seams.

Legible text inside the image

Headlines, signage, menus, labels, and infographic layouts come out readable and correctly spelled far more often, which makes the model practical for posters, thumbnails, and marketing creative.

Consistent characters and products

Upload up to 10 reference images and the model keeps faces, outfits, products, and logos recognizable across new scenes, which is what multi-shot campaigns and storyboards need.

Fast enough to iterate

Most images finish in roughly 15 to 35 seconds, so you can try several prompt variations in the time a heavier model takes to return one.

What to Create with Nano Banana 2.1

Generation and editing tasks where text accuracy, consistency, and turnaround time matter.
01

Posters, banners, and thumbnails

Describe the layout and the exact headline. The improved text rendering lets you ship social creative and ad variants with copy already in place.

02

Product photography and mockups

Upload product shots and place them into new settings, lighting, and seasonal themes while the packaging and logo stay intact.

03

Character-consistent series

Reuse the same character reference images across a storyboard, comic, or campaign so every frame shows the same person or mascot.

04

Conversational photo editing

Change the background, weather, style, or time of day of an existing photo with a plain-language instruction while the composition stays the same.

Supported Nano Banana 2.1 Controls

The playground and the API expose the same parameters.

Prompt

Describe the subject, setting, lighting, framing, and any text that should appear. When reference images are attached, describe what to keep and what to change.

Reference images

Optional, up to 10 images in PNG, JPEG, or WebP. With no reference image the request is text-to-image; with one or more it becomes image-to-image editing or multi-reference composition. Mask-based inpainting is not supported.

Aspect ratios

Auto, 1:1, 3:2, 2:3, 4:3, 3:4, 5:4, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, and 21:9. Auto lets the model pick a ratio that suits the prompt or the reference image.

Resolution

1K, 2K, or 4K. The default is 1K. Each request returns one image.

Nano Banana 2.1 Pricing

Credits are charged per generated image and depend only on the resolution tier.
01

Priced by resolution

Each image is billed by its output tier: 1K, 2K, or 4K. The exact credit cost of every tier is shown in the pricing table above and on the Generate button.

02

No surcharge for references or ratio

Attaching reference images or choosing a different aspect ratio does not change the price.

03

How credits are computed

The submit endpoint returns the estimated credit cost before the task runs, and the query endpoint returns the final credits_used after completion.

04

Failed tasks are free

If a generation fails, no credits are charged.

Generate with Nano Banana 2.1

Four steps from idea to finished image, in the browser or through the API.

01

Write the prompt

Describe the scene and spell out any text that should appear in the image, in quotes.

02

Add reference images (optional)

Upload up to 10 images of the characters, products, or styles to keep, or skip this step for pure text-to-image.

03

Pick ratio and resolution

Choose an aspect ratio, or leave it on auto, and pick 1K for drafts or 2K and 4K for final assets.

04

Generate and refine

Review the result and adjust the prompt or swap a reference image. Feed a good output back in as a reference to keep iterating on it.

Use Nano Banana 2.1 through the AIReiter API

Submit one normalized task and query the same external task ID until it reaches a terminal state.

Model ID

Send nano_banana_v2_1 as the model value in the request body.

Submit a task

POST /api/openapi/submit with the model, params (prompt, optional image_url array, aspect_ratio, resolution), and a unique out_task_id. The response returns the estimated credit cost.

Query the result

POST /api/openapi/query with the same out_task_id until the status is completed or failed. Completed responses include the image URL and the final credits_used.

Store results on your side

Download the output image and keep it in your own storage instead of hot-linking the result URL long term.

Nano Banana 2.1 FAQ

Answers about capabilities, controls, pricing, and API usage.

/ 01

What is Nano Banana 2.1?

Nano Banana 2.1 is Google's fast image generation and editing model, released in October 2026 as an update to Nano Banana 2. It improves image quality, prompt adherence, text rendering, and multi-image consistency while staying fast enough for iterative work.

/ 02

How is it different from Nano Banana 2?

Images look more realistic, text inside the image is more accurate, characters and products stay more consistent across references, and wide compositions at 2K and 4K no longer show seams. Nano Banana 2.1 does not offer the smaller 512px tier.

/ 03

Should I use Nano Banana 2.1 or Nano Banana Pro?

Use Nano Banana 2.1 for fast, high-volume generation and editing. Use Nano Banana Pro when you want the most polished result on a complex composition and turnaround time matters less.

/ 04

How many reference images can I upload?

Up to 10 per request, in PNG, JPEG, or WebP. They are used in the order you upload them.

/ 05

Which aspect ratios and resolutions are supported?
