Anthropic says the change is rolling out to existing and new Pro and Max users over “the next few weeks.” Team and Free plans are due later, while Enterprise organizations will receive at least 30 days’ notice before a change, according to the September 16 announcement.

What happens when you submit a task now
The unified Claude distinguishes a quick response from work needing tools, files, connectors, or background execution. Claude can ask for missing details, perform the longer job, and keep running after the laptop closes.
Anthropic’s launch scenario starts with a weekly pipeline report and then requests five leadership slides. Claude produces both from the same context, permits direct edits and slide comments, and can schedule the job for Mondays. The resulting artifact has a shareable link that opens on a phone, according to the official launch post.
Claude asks before acting by default. Users may instead allow continued work and reserve check-ins for decisions needing closer review; a task can still be stopped or redirected.
Specify the output, source scope, and approval boundary up front: “Use these three files, draft a report, and ask before sending or changing a source file.”
Claude Docs, Slides, and Design are outputs, not three new apps
Claude Docs, Claude Slides, and Claude Design are creation surfaces available from a conversation. Each serves a different final format; Anthropic identifies all three as beta features on paid plans.

Claude Slides is presentation-specific; Claude Design is the broader canvas for designs and interactive prototypes. Anthropic’s Claude Design guide directs presentation makers to Slides and says Design works in conversations, Claude Code, the Artifacts tab, mobile apps, and the standalone Design experience.
The standalone Claude Design page remains available, and existing Design projects stay in place. On mobile, users can request and view a design, but templates, canvas editing, and sharing-setting changes require web or desktop, according to the same guide.
Availability depends on rollout and device
Pro and Max receive the first wave, but two accounts on the same plan may gain access at different points in the multiweek rollout. A missing unified interface therefore does not prove an account is broken.

Desktop remains the fullest Cowork surface because it can use local files and a local browser. Cloud work on web and mobile runs on Anthropic’s servers and saves sessions and files to the Claude account; the official platform guide also says to use the latest mobile or desktop app when the Cowork option is absent.
The rollout remains gradual, so Anthropic gives no account-specific access date.
This is also a Claude app change, not an API launch. Anthropic announced no API availability for Docs, Slides, or unified routing.
What existing Cowork users should do
Existing Cowork users do not need to migrate projects or recreate connectors. Anthropic says chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills remain where users left them.
- Verify the app and rollout. Install the latest desktop or mobile app, then check whether the account has received the gradual rollout.
- Check the message box. Anthropic’s platform guide says the absence of separate Chat and Cowork options identifies the new experience; submit the task in any conversation.
- Keep existing projects in place. Do not export and re-import Cowork history merely because the entry point changed.
- State approval boundaries. For file edits, messages, or other consequential actions, tell Claude which actions require confirmation.
- Use desktop for local work. Choose the desktop app when the task must access local folders or the local browser.
- Keep existing quota expectations. The launch announcement does not state that plan limits change.
Test with a bounded, reversible task: provide a small source folder, request a two-page report and five-slide deck, and require approval before any file is overwritten. This checks the shared-context workflow without exposing production files to a beta feature.

No. Cowork’s delegation and background-work capabilities are being merged into Claude conversations, while existing Cowork work remains available.
Why do I still see separate Chat and Cowork buttons?
The unified experience is rolling out gradually to Pro and Max accounts. Use the current app version; if the selectors remain, the account likely still has the previous interface.
Can Claude turn a document into slides and export PowerPoint?
Yes. Claude can derive a deck from a document in the same conversation, then download the slides as PowerPoint or PDF.
Does Claude decide everything automatically?
